Convection in core collapse supernovae.
Abstract
The final explosion energy of supernovae produced by the late time neutrino heating mechanism in sensitive to the magnitude of the total neutrino luminosity streaming from the proto-neutron star remnant. In this paper we show that convection can occur on timescales important to the late time mechanism. The neutrino luminosity is thus enhanced, with a corresponding increase in the explosive energy, more than double the value obtained from numerical models of supernovae without convection.
