Suppression of high-pT nucleons - A signature of deconfinement in heavy ion collisions?
Abstract
Protons with large transverse momenta are produced in proton-proton collisions primarily by hard scattering of diquarks. If the diquark radius were close to the Debye screening length, yields of protons, neutrons and lambdas with large transverse momenta would be suppressed in a deconfined quark-gluon plasma. It will be argued that this effect is not likely to be generated by dense hadronic matter.
