Diffuse molecular gas toward W 49A.
Abstract
The authors report detection of the CS (J = 1-0) line in absorption toward the W49A complex. Since the W49A complex lies far from the Sun (11.7 kpc) diffuse molecular gas in the Sagittarius arm at kinematic distances of 8.8 and 2.2 kpc from the Sun has been detected in absorption at VLSR≡ 40 km s-1 and ≡60 km s-1, respectively. Based on the present data and the results in the literature, the authors discuss the physical conditions and chemical abundances of the diffuse molecular gas.
