Significance of plane versus chain sites in high-temperature oxide superconductors
Abstract
Zn and Ga have been substituted for the CuO2 planes and CuO chains in the high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7, and the resulting structural changes are discussed. The correlation of the changes with the superconducting properties is investigated. It is shown that the integrity of the planes is much more important than that of the chains in sustaining high-Tc superconductivity.
