Sintering and melting characteristics of YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x Oxides obtained from the "barium peroxide reaction"
Abstract
The solid state synthesis of YBa 2Cu 3O 7- x superconductors from mixed powders of Y 2O 3, BaO 2 and CuO is reviewed. The proper sintering conditions both in air and oxygen are outlined. The oxygen decomposition pressure is reported up to the liquid state. We show that superconducting materials can be formed successfully also after having reached in oxygen atmosphere temperatures higher than the peritectic decomposition temperature of YBa 2Cu 3O 7. Proper heat treatment in flowing oxygen increases the superconducting characteristics at 77 K.
