Ionosphere radiowave absorption by Al-technique - A test for the IRI model
Abstract
The International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) provides electron density profiles for appropriate geophysical conditions. This paper reports the validity of the IRI model by comparing experimentally measured ionospheric absorption and virtual height data recorded during the declining phase of solar activity from June 1981 to December 1983 with values calculated theoretically by using the Sen-Wyller magnetoionic theory. It is found that the calculated absorption is too high, whereas the calculated reflection heights are too low compared to the observed values.
