Spectral and photoelectric observations of V407 Cygni and AS 338.
Abstract
The results of photometric (in the UBVRJHKLMN system) and spectral (in the range of 4300 - 7200 Å) observations of the object V407 Cyg, included in the catalogue of symbiotic stars, and the symbiotic star AS 338 are presented. They show that during the observations of V407 Cyg it might be classified as a variable red giant surrounded by a dust envelope. No definite signs of the presence in the radiation of V407 Cyg of the hot source's emission which could allow to classify it as a symbiotic star have been found. The spectrum of V407 Cyg did not display the Hα and Hβ lines. But at the same time, the forbidden lines of [N II] 6548 and 6584 were discovered in it. In the period 1986 - 1987 the visible brightness of AS 338 continued to decline. Nevertheless, the spectrum of this star had not yet acquired the symbiotic character, so that, during more than four years AS 338 was at a state when its hot component might be classified as a shell B star.
