Instantaneous critical point in unsteady flow
Abstract
A similarity transformation is used to transform the unsteady pathline equation into an autonomous system. By studying the autonomous system, the applicability of the idea of an 'instantaneous critical point' to an unsteady flow is discussed. It is proved that in the neighborhood where separation occurs, the pathline equation may be locally autonomous in the physical plane, to the first order.
