Quarkonium production in hadronic interactions: Probing the gluon structure function at small x values
Abstract
The properties of charm and bottom bound state production at present and future hadron colliders are studied. Reasonable agreement exists between calculations and UA1 J/Psi data whereas the agreement with UA1 Upsilon data is fairly good. Based on these observations extrapolations for future hadron colliders are presented. Predictions are dominated by the uncertainties on the gluon structure function at small values of x. Conversely, observation of quarkonium signals at higher energies may serve as a probe for those structure functions at small x values.
