Flow through curved ducts of decreasing area
Abstract
The problem of laminar flow through curved ducts of 180 deg bend angle with the cross-sectional area decreasing along the axial direction is analyzed numerically. The parabolized form of the Navier-Stokes equations, in the primitive variable form, is solved using a finite difference technique. The results indicate an increase in the cross stream recirculation as well as in the axial pressure drop as the ratio of the outlet area to the inlet area decreases. The effect of Dean number on the flow field is same as in the case of constant area curved ducts.
