Detectors for particle radiation
Abstract
The design and operation of particle detectors for use in experimental physics are reviewed, with an emphasis on recent developments. Chapters are devoted to the fundamental physical principles of particle detection; the measurement of ionization, position, and time; particle identification; energy measurement; and momentum measurement. Consideration is given to specific applications in space science, geophysics, and medicine and to detector configurations for ion-atom, electron-positron, and proton-antiproton collisions; heavy-ion and hadronic reactions; and other high-energy experiments. Diagrams, drawings, graphs, photographs, and tables of numerical data are provided.
