Comparison of a few methods of restoring images distorted by atmospheric turbulence
Abstract
The limits of Knox, Thompson, and Bates image restoration methods are defined and the results of each are compared. The experimental verification is done in a one dimensional imaging configuration, in a tank were the optical effects of atmospheric turbulence were simulated. For Knox-Thompson's method the data agrees well with the prediction and the reconstruction of two types of object is satisfactory. For the Knox-Thompson method there are at least 30 photons per speckle, whereas for the Bates method it is of the order of 10.
