Navier-Stokes calculations of rocket base flows
Abstract
It is proposed that Navier-Stokes analyses are viable for accurately calculating rocket base flows. Progress made in the development of a detailed analysis procedure for real nozzle afterbody flows is reviewed with attention focused on the solution algorithm, code development, and grid generation. It is shown that a fully three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis could provide accurate base flow results if an appropriate grid density and location is selected.
