The hydrogen atom in a strong electric field
Abstract
The Stark shifts and widths of the ground and excited states of the hydrogen atom in a strong electric field are calculated for values up to those comparable to the field strength in an atomic orbit. Two independent methods of calculation are used: the summation of the diverging series of perturbation theory and the 1/n expansion. The results of the calculations are confirmed upon examination of the Rydberg limit.
