Efficiency of a method of sequential analysis in detectors of radar signals
Abstract
The paper presents a comparison of the efficiencies of Wald and N-P detectors for the detection of a normal random signal of unknown intensity on a normal-noise background when discrete samples of signal and noise are independent. It is shown that, since a reduction in the actual power with respect to the expected power is much more dangerous than an increase, it is necessary to select the sequential-detection threshold on the basis of calculations for the weakest signals. In addition, under conditions of a priori indeterminacy, a careful analysis of the efficiency of the sequential detector is necessary in the case of the reception of weak signals and low false-alarm probabilities.
