The effective saturation of absorption in a plasma magnetospheric maser
Abstract
The properties of the quasi-linear interaction of whistler and Alfven waves with planetary radiation belts (e.g. of the earth and Jupiter) are discussed. It is shown that quasi-linear relaxation can lead to an increase in the increment of cyclotron instability at the leading edge of the electromagnetic pulse. This corresponds to the effective saturation of absorption and makes the division of noise radiation into separate electromagnetic pulses energetically advantageous. Consideration is given to fast and slow (relative to pulse duration) effective saturation of absorption.
