Near infrared JHK photometry of clusters of galaxies. I. E, S0, and S galaxies in the Coma cluster (Abell 1626).
Abstract
. We have obtained accurate near infrared JHK photometry for 101 elliptical, lenticular and spiral galaxies observed in the Coma Cluster. Magnitudes, colors and color-color diagrams, (J-H) versus (H-K), are presented for all galaxies observed. In the (J-H)/(H-K) diagram, we find that, as expected, elliptical galaxies are concentrated in a small region, which is also the region where most of the SO galaxies are located. Spiral galaxies (S), on the other hand, do show a wider distribution. A few of the E, SO and S galaxies studied, show color excesses which may be typical of active galaxies.
