Thermal regime and radiation energy of solid-state lasers of different design
Abstract
The effect of the thermal regime of the illuminator on the power characteristics of YAG and Nd:glass lasers is considered for four illuminator designs: (1) hollow illuminator, (2) illuminator with a quartz monoblock, (3) illuminator with a leukosapphire monoblock, and (4) illuminator with a leukosapphire tube around the active element. It is shown that the use of the leukosapphire monoblock or tube designs leads to a considerable increase in the radiation energy; the utilization efficiency of these designs in YAG lasers is about 1.5 times higher than in Nd:glass lasers.
