Ultrasonic attenuation experiments in normal-state UPt 3
Abstract
In heavy-fermion systems with large Grüneisen parameters a longitudinal acoustic wave gives rise to electronic density fluctuations via both the deformation-potential coupling and the coupling to sound-induced temperature fluctuations (Grüneisen coupling). It is shown that the thermoelectric Thompson effect seems to provide a reasonable explanation for the observed ultrasonic absorption peak at ∼12 K.
