Resolution, measurement accuracy, and errors - Development of an azimuthal target-resolution algorithm for a radar with frequency agility
Abstract
The operating principles of pulsed Doppler panoramic surveillance radars with burst-to-burst frequency agility are reviewed and illustrated with diagrams and graphs, and a signal-processing algorithm is developed to facilitate the azimuthal resolution of multiple targets. Existing optimal and suboptimal algorithms are examined; the azimuthal-resolution problem is defined; and the types of errors that can occur are described. The results of numerical simulations demonstrating the effectiveness of the algorithm are presented in tables and briefly characterized.
