Variational principles for the matching of signals with a communication channel
Abstract
This work presents a systematic description of the synthesis of signals providing the maximum noise immunity for the transmission of digital and analog data through distorting channels and for reception on a background of additive noise with an arbitrary distribution. The synthesis is based on variations of signal structures. The matched signals are classified according to the form of the constraints imposed on them. Particular emphasis is placed on the matching of signals with linear and nonlinear Gaussian channels.
