On the possibility of existence of supermassive rotating tori in nuclei of active galaxies.
Abstract
An analysis is made of the dynamics of massive and supermassive toroidal configurations which can arise during the collapse of massive objects with a large angular momentum. The analysis covers: the gravitational potential of a thin circular torus, smnall oscillations of the surface of a thin torus, the stability of radial oscillations of the torus, and the stability of standing-wave oscillations near the torus. The application of the results obtained to the modeling of the dynamics of active galactic nuclei is considered.
