Noise removal for SPOT HRV imagery
Abstract
Several digital image restoration procedures for suppressing or removing noise in SPOT high resolution visible imagery are described and evaluated. The procedures examined include low-pass filtering, median filtering, edge-detection filtering, image destripping, spatial frequency filtering, and inverse principal component filtering. These procedures were applied to an HRV multispectral scene of an area centered south of London obtained on June 3, 1986. It is noted that the image restoration technique which used a convolution kernel of the inverse of the noise is the most effective and also the most expensive due to computational costs.
