Mechanisms of the excitation of the 1PG system of N2 in auroras
Abstract
A theoretical model is proposed which is used to perform a quantitative investigation of the efficiency of various excitation channels for bands of the 1PG system of N2. It is shown that the result of W-B collisional deactivation is capable of explaining the distribution features of band intensity in the Delta v = 3 sequence under electric-discharge conditions in N2 and in auroral spectra. The investigation is carried out using a model that describes energy transfer via inelastic collisions between electrons and neutrals of the ionospheric plasma.
