Self-similar development of the precursor before a shock wave interacting with a warm layer
Abstract
An algorithm of Boris and Book is used to carry out a numerical analysis of the self-similar evolution of the precursor before a shock wave (generated by a plane piston) interacting with a warm layer. Results are presented for M = 32, gamma = 1.4, and omega = 1/3, where gamma is the adiabatic index and omega is the ratio of density in the warm layer to the density of the gas in which the shock was generated.
