A high performance guidance system for sounding rockets
Abstract
A guidance system developed for sounding rockets is described. The system is composed of a Guidance Computer (GC), and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The GC is a multiprocessor multitasking 16-bit system with three modes of operation: the monitor mode, the alignment mode, and the launch mode, controlled by the ground terminal operator. The GC receives inertial rates and acceleration data, measured by the IMU, and uses these data to compute the vehicle's inertial rotations (Euler angles) from an 'uncaged' frame, the vehicle's instantaneous position, and the instantaneous impact prediction.
