Nonlinear saturation of MHD ballooning modes
Abstract
The saturation mechanism of ballooning mode was studied by using a system of two-fluid equation with Maxwell equations in two dimensional geometry. At the beta value below the critical one derived from MHD analysis, electrostatic ballooning modes are unstable;;and high-m (m; poloidal mode number) eddies are formed. With increasing beta value, longer wave-length modes are realized. Above the critical beta value, m=1 or m=2 modes dominate other modes and magnetic fluctuation is enhanced.
