A global comparison of total ozone and tropopause pressure fields
Abstract
Satellite meteorological data sets are used to examine the global distribution of the ozone-weather relationship, and a strong positive correlation between tropopause pressure and total ozone for the medium scale waves is found for the transition seasons in the middle latitudes of both hemispheres. Maximum correlation regions may be associated with the major middle latitude storm tracks in both hemispheres. Examination of the extreme seasons indicates that the summer hemispheres exhibit some of the most extensive areas of high correlation, while the winter hemispheres generally show the weakest correlations.
