Gallium arsenide or silicon array for near future?
Abstract
Cost and technical data of silicon and gallium arsenide spacecraft solar arrays are compared. Technically, gallium arsenide is competitive at silicon solar array subsystems level for flux solar arrays. Configurations which require a high surface power are sometimes not feasible with silicon (spinned satellites, stowed transfer or hot cases, concentration).
