Numerical grid generation applied to spectral turbulent simulations
Abstract
The spectral methods of Orzag (1980) have been extended using a generalized coordinate transformation approach to simulate turbulent fluid flow. Predictions for smooth channels are found to agree with previous data. The simulation of distorted geometries is accomplished by step changes towards the required distortion, such that the initial velocity field for the new geometry is the final field from the previous step. The method is found to successfully predict the recirculating flows of various two-dimensional channel geometries.
