SAMT-AN/GSC-52 - A new generation satellite communications ground terminal with self-diagnostic capability and low life cycle costs
Abstract
The DSCS and NATO satellite network-compatible State-of-the-Art Medium Terminal (SAMT) SHF communications ground terminal can be configured for either fixed or van-transported operations and will undertake simultaneous transmission and reception of CW, FM, PM, FDMA, or spread-spectrum signals. SAMT encompasses three features not currently available in existing systems: (1) a control/monitor/alarm subsystem for centralized control and self-diagnostic capability, as well as the ability to operate in an unattended mode, (2) high altitude EMP protection, and (3) low life cycle costs. Attention is given to the features of automatic fault isolation, a multizone approach to EMP protection, and the identification of the cost categories responsible for life cycle benefits.
