A note on the stability of sheared magnetic fields of sunspots as presented by Zwingmann's theory.
Abstract
Zwingmann's theory of instabilities in magnetoplasma structures prior to flares is described without going into mathematical details. Sequences of equilibria during the passive phase are defined and formulated in order to find onsetpoints of the dynamic phase. The newly emerging fluxmodel and the arcademodel are investigated by this method, allowing for proper boundary conditions, pressure gradients, magnetic shear, flow of plasma and gravitation. The main result is that both pressure gradients and medium shear deliver onsetpoints but strong shear does not. By modeling the mechanism of flares triggering as presented by Zwingmann (1984) two ribbon flares are explained.
