Numerical simulations of current driven double layers
Abstract
The formation of weak double layers by current driven instabilities is focused on. A critical review summarizes the physics learned from periodic numerical simulations, in particular the dynamics of ion holes and their instability, as they play a major role in the formation of these weak double layers. Possible consequences for particles in auroral conditions are examined.
