SYRACUSE - The French military satellite communication system
Abstract
The characteristics of the French military communication system SYRACUSE are discussed. The system's TELECOM I satellites, global coverage 7 and 8 GHz transponders, and ground segment fixed, transportable, and shipboard terminals are described in detail. The system's present status and first operational experience are summarized. The main characteristics of a military satellite communication system are addressed, giving examples. The chief problems encountered in the design of a hybrid system are examined.
