Sloshing of two adjacent fluids
Abstract
A method is developed for calculating the sloshing motion of two fluids separated by a free membrane in a linearly and angularly accelerated two-dimensional closed container of arbitrary shape, and for computing the resulting pressures and forces. The flow is calculated by distributing mass-flow sources in panels on the container walls and on both sides of the membrane. A set of differential equations for the source strengths is obtained by satisfying the boundary conditions of the flow at the center of each panel. The validity of the method is verified by comparing the calculated results with analytical solutions.
