Time-dependent theory for a relativistic gyrotron with an unspecified longitudinal rf field structure
Abstract
A time-dependent problem is solved for the TE(13) mode of a gyrotron excited by a relativistic electron beam. It is shown that steady generation begins after peak efficiency has been reached. The wave travels in both directions from the center and modulates the beam; while the field is strongest at the center, its profile is highly non-Gaussian.
