Calculation of ionization during the modeling of high-temperature hydrodynamic phenomena
Abstract
A method is presented for calculating nonequiliibrium ionization when solving numerically a system of hydrodynamic equations. Various computational algorithms are compared, and it is shown that an algorithm in which ionization is included into an iteration cycle for determining the temperature is the most efficient one. Results are presented for a test problem concerning the formation of an ionizing shock wave during a spherical point explosion in elemental hydrogen.
