Influence of the boundary of a metal film on the luminescence intensity from a metal-barrier-metal structure
Abstract
An analysis is conducted for the way in which the boundary of the metal film affects the luminescence intensity of a metal-barrier-metal (MBM) structure of the type used as a highly responsive source of tunable radiation. An Ag(1OOO)-HfO2 + SiO2(15+15)-Ag(300) structure is used in the present experiment. For MBM structures with equal working areas, the radiated power increases and the luminescence threshold drops as the perimeter increases; the enhancement is due to the more efficient conversion of surface EM waves into bulk luminescence waves at the edge of the working region.
