Theory of resonant extended-interaction amplifiers. III
Abstract
A self-consistent theory of O-type extended-interaction amplifiers is developed. The amplification regime without an upper limit on the level of beam bunching by the input signal is studied numerically and analytically. The gain, efficiency, and oscillation amplitude at the amplifier output are determined as a function of the type of beam buncher used. A relationship is established between the maximum efficiency and the physical characteristics of the amplifier; and efficiency of 20-40 percent can be achieved at voltages of 16-60 kV.
