Electromagnetic-wave reflection from a parabolic layer of magnetoactive absorbing plasma
Abstract
An exact solution is obtained for the reflection of an electromagnetic wave from a plane absorbing magnetoactive plasma layer with a parabolic dependence of the electron density on the coordinate perpendicular to the interfaces interfaces under normal incidence. The constant magnetic field determining the layer anisotropy is assumed to be directed along the wave propagation; polarization effects are considered. It is noted that the solution obtained can be used to study: (1) the polarization characteristics of a radio signal reflected from the ionosphere at the critical frequency; and (2) the penetration of LF pulsations of the magnetosphere through the ionospheric maximum into the earth-ionosphere cavity.
