Phase synthesis of the radiation patterns of antenna arrays using a parametric constraint on the unknown phases
Abstract
The paper examines the possibility of reducing the number of variables to be optimized during the minimization of the pattern functionals by the imposition of a parametric constraint on the unknown phases. It is shown that, in the phase synthesis of arrays with a large number of elements, it is possible to reduce the number of unknowns by the use of phase parameterization and the replacement of functional-minimum search in the unknown-phase space by search in a space having a lesser dimensionality. The number of computations in solving the phase-synthesis problem is thus reduced. Constraints on antenna efficiency losses are also introduced.
