Surface and leaky waves of a lossy plane dielectric waveguide
Abstract
The spectral and nonspectral solutions of dispersion equations of even E and H modes of a plane dielectric waveguide with Ohmic losses are studied numerically. The number of spectral solutions corresponding to surface waves is shown to depend on the magnitude of losses in the medium. It is also demonstrated, that, in the case of very large losses (when the wavelength in free space is much larger than the skin-layer depth), the nonspectral solutions corresponding to reverse noneigenmodes, are located on the physical sheet of the complex transverse wavenumber. Asymptotic formulas are obtained for the nonspectral roots.
