Physics of optical recording in dielectrics and semiconductors
Abstract
The history of the discovery of methods of direct optical data recording using photoinduced processes in dielectric and semiconductors is reviewed. The principles of discrete (digital) and holographic recording are examined, as are the types (phase and amplitude) and parameters of holograms. The mechanisms of direct optical recording in dielectrics and semiconductors are discussed with particular reference to charge phototransfer, photoinduced phase transitions, and selective electron-phonon conversion of centers. Particular attention is given to the elementary mechanism of optical data recording in amorphous chalcogenides.
