Numerical calculation of the turbulent flow about a cubic body
Abstract
The calculation of the three-dimensional flow about sharp-angular bodies using numerical methods was investigated, for engineering applications. Discretization methods and approaches to the modeling of turbulence phenomena were compared. Based on finite differences and statistical turbulence models, a solution algorithm which can take into account complicated boundary geometries was deduced. The possibility of complete vectorization enables an extensive use of powerful computer architecture. The efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated by calculating the turbulent flow field near a cubic body on a plate.
