Linear theory of a relativistic surface-wave generator
Abstract
The starting currents and operating frequency of a Cerenkov surface-wave oscillator with a relativistic electron beam are determined in the linear approximation. The proposed approach uses a one-dimensional beam model and the representation of the delay system as a chain of coupled two-ports. Particular attention is given to interaction at the boundary of the transparence band of the electrodynamic system. Calculation results agree well with experimental data. The results are of interest in connection with the development of microwave oscillators.
