The extended semianalytical Kalman filter and its application to synchronous orbits.
Abstract
A semianalytical orbit determination system, consisting of an orbit propagator based on Semianalytical Satellite Theory (SST) and an extended sequential estimator, the Extended Semianalytical Kalman Filter (ESKF), has been developed. SST allows the long-period and secular motion of the satellite to be separated out for efficient and accurate large step size propagation, while permitting essentially full recovery of the satellite state at any time. The ESKF has been formulated to complement SST's special averaged form of the satellite equations of motion, and it incorporates several important simplifications made possible by use of averaged dynamics. To evaluate this semianalytical orbit determination system, real high-quality observations of a synchronous satellite were processed. The results were compared with those of a Cowell special perturbations-based extended Kalman filter now in use at a satellite control facility.
