Transformer computer design aid for higher frequency switching power supplies
Abstract
A transformer computer design aid is presented that was developed for use at switching frequencies above 100 kHz where the classical method of using the saturation contraint results in an overheated transformer due to excessive core loss. Flux density is selected instead by an optimization procedure that minimizes total transformer losses. Key equations used in the design procedure are developed. Emphasis is placed on the algorithm used in the transformer design procedure.
