Transient analysis of a directional coupler using a coupled microstrip slot line in three-dimensional space
Abstract
A directional coupler using a coupled microstrip slot line is analyzed in three-dimensional space and time. The mechanism of the directional coupling phenomena produced by the propagation characteristics of the even and odd nodes is presented in time domain, with an instantaneous diagram of the Poynting vector detailing the energy flow in the transient process. The results illustrate the usefulness of various field distribution expressions, that are obtained by three-dimensional vector analysis in time domain, for the analysis of the characteristics of complex microwave devices.
