Design of high-speed digital filters suitable for multi-DSP implementation
Abstract
A multipath signal processing scheme is proposed which is specifically suitable for implementation using a number of digital signal processors (DSPs) and which overcomes the limitation on throughput rate of presently available LSI devices. Two methods are proposed to realize a given transfer function of a digital filter with a throughput rate speedup factor of N. The properties of an N-path digital element and its limitation when applied to implement a high-speed digital filter are reviewed, and multipath system structures suitable for low values of N are proposed. A procedure to design FIR and IIR digital filters from given specifications is outlined, followed by a discussion of the second multipath scheme suitable for larger values of N. The proposed approach is illustrated by several examples, and the hardware implementation of the proposed structure using a multiple-DSP architecture is discussed.
