Optical systems for the Paladin experiment
Abstract
The composition of the Paladin facility utilized to investigate the characteristics of optical FELs is examined. The requirements for and characteristics of the optical output are described. The optical output properties of the wiggler are studied in order to evaluate the performance of the FEL amplifier. The Paladin optical system consisits of a laser system to provide the input beam; the laser system's focusing, pointing, and centering optics; optical beamlines leading to and from the wiggler; and diagnostic instruments to measure the optical output. The design and operation of the optical system are discussed.
